I have burned 2 different backups on the same brand of media, RiData with a media code of R03-02. Both of these freeze and skip at the last 15 minutes of the movie. This happens in every dvd player I play them in. The media is suppose to be 8x, but my burner only shows them as 2.4x. Would this be an indication of my burner going bad or is the media bad?
I bought a spindle of Taiyo Yuden media but its not here yet and I'm anxious to figure out if I need to buy a new burner or not.
Has anybody run into this before and is Taiyo Yuden better than most other brands of media? Thanks!

The problem shows all hallmarks of bad media - Solution is to use better media, or don't fill the DVD to the brim. The vulnerable region of low q media is the outer edge (where the last parts are written).

Bad Media symptoms....but I have a half-used spindle of RiData here and have had no problems with them...I've never had problems with Ritek/RiData media that is rated at 8x or lower.
If your burner only shows 2.4x available....you may need to update the burners firmware OR live with burning these at 2.4....depending on the manufacturer of your burner.
