    I have a dvd r120 recorder and am copying my old vhs tapes. I use the sony dvd -r which according to the manual is an acceptable media. it records ok but when i try to play it on my other dvd Toshiba model, it freezes up and dont play. the recorded media plays ok on the r120.
    the dvd r model is a axxa.
    Any ideasPlease

    The other player doesn't like the media you are using. It will be a matter of trial and error to find a media that the recorder and the other player both support.

    I am using also verbatim and Maxell and they also dont work. I spoke to a rep at samsung and he advised that it could be toshiba and samsung are not compatible? This sound strange its a dvd-r .
    Any ideas

    I also tried other media and they wont play. it pplays on my pc but not on toshiba? I spoke to a samsung rep and he adviised that the two dvd are not compatible? Funny normally my toshiba plays any kind of dvd either rented bought or burned on my pc
    Any ideas

    Do you have any burned discs that play in the Toshiba. Could be the player is just failing.

    If the discs play in the pc AND the r120, then I suspect the discs are fine. You can veirfy further if you like by trying other players. I suspect the problem is with the Toshiba player. It's possible the laser has aged sufficiently where it can no longer read burned media.

    thanks for your help. The discs burned on th dvdr120 play on one of the first sony dvd which plays believe it or not + and - r all kind of rented dvd's . This is old. My toshiba reads all my burned disk -r from the pc also all rented or copied disks . the only one that it wont read is the dvd-r120. I guess i have n o more problems and i'll play my recrded disc on y old sonmy.
