I've got a few shows in avi format. Some of them play fine and I can convert and burn them with DVD Santa with no problems. Every now and then I get one that just freezes up Windows Explorer when I click on them, so I did a search, downloaded and installed DivX player. Now, they don't "hang" my system and I can play them in just about anything.
However, when I try to convert and burn them with DVD Santa or WinAvi both programs get to the .avi (that used to hang up my system before I installed DivX) and everything comes to a halt. I get the typical 'Windows has encountered an error with this program" message and I can't get any further.
Anyone know of a workaround or something for this? Thanks.

Aside from the obvious - DVD Santa and WinAVI are both monkey crap, I would lay odds that your suspect avis have VBR MP3 audio. Either go a speak with the support people for either piece of software, after all - you paid for support when you bought it, or search the forums. There are hundreds of posts with the solution to this problem.
The simplest solution, don't download TV shows - either record them yourself, or buy the box set.[/url]Read my blog here.

U need a Win-Avi fix for Explorer. You see it tries to open a codec that it can't so that's what happens. That fix prevents it from opening preview files.
