It's fine in Nero Showtime or MP Classic, but when I play it in WMP10, no sound. Any thoughts?

Just found that this problem is specific to my laptop - what could be missing/corrupt? It's only a problem with PAL DVDs - others play fine.

Found out another thing. If I try to play the DVD or mounted image, no sound - but, if I unmount the image, and then navigate to the iso with wmp10 and open it, I get a message re: how I might be able to play it but it doesn't recognize the format, etc. Anyway, it plays fine.

Well, WMP has never been the player of choice for Video DVD anyway, so... I'm surprised that WMP plays a "raw" ISO tho!

For DVD Video play back on a computer one should be using either PowerDVD or WinDVD ... not Windows Media Player.

Do you have either of those programs? If so ... does it work with this PAL DVD and if it does then screw WMP and don't worry about it.

All other DVDs work - just not this pal one.

Strangely, I have the Media Center OS, it plays in that as well.

Why is WMP10 so bad? I alway get obsessed on figuring out why it won't do something - and it only has this problem on one of my comps.

I was going to mention this before but I think this is NOT the problem but ...

The only thing I can think of that is different, audio wise, between NTSC and PAL is that PAL can have MP2/MPA audio ... NTSC will never have MP2/MPA audio. At least as far as commercial DVD discs go.

So maybe that PAL DVD has MP2/MPA audio and that is making WMP not work correctly.

    Tis a thought.

Yeah, one might wonder. I guess only MS can answer that. To me, it's only good for filling out a corner of my HDD I can't find any other use for.
Just like Nero, for every aspect of what it does, there's a better free alternative available.
