PS2 will only play audio

Hello,

I have a DVD that will play fine on a computer with InterActual Player 2.0,

it will not read at all on a computer using Powerdvd 5.0,

and when played on a PS2 it will show the menu screen, but then only play the audio.

Anyone seen anything like this before, and if you have do you have any suggestions?

is this an original dvd or a + - dvdr

This is a dvd that I purchased online from EBay. It is a copy made by the seller. I am not sure how to tell what type it is though.

I have the same problem, i can play dvdr's but when i make a dvd with tmpgenc dvd author it only shows the menu screen but plays the sound

what kind of movie source was it (And wtf are you doing buying copies off ebay?)

Most PS2s will not play movies made from mpg1 (vcd) sources converted to DVD if they have menus. Just the audio will play.

Edit: Roybmx: Same thing.. are you turning a vcd/mpg file into a dvd?

You probably don't want to be buying backed up copies off of ebay. You can do it all for free yourself if you have a dvd burner. All the software you need is free.

As for your ps2 problem. The drives on ps2s are really picky compared to stand alones and computer drives. I have always been under the impression for games one should only use -r discs for backing up and playing on your ps2. For movies I think that would probably be the same. So I'm betting that you are trying to a play +r format and thats what is giving you the problems. Since you bought this from someone on ebay and have no idea how it was made and what kind of media its on no one here is going to be able to give you a definate answer to what you problem is.

the DVD's i use are -r's but yeah, they are from mpeg 1's

I had the same problem playing a dvd with mpg1 with an earlier model of ps2(30001) and no picture but audio,bought a new ps2(50001) and problem solved.

While I wouldn't say buy another PS2 to solve that problem (wtf?) A $30 cyberhome DVD player from Best Buy would be your cheapest bet to get the discs to work.

Didnt have to buy another ps2,rented the earlier model which didnt work right and bought the new one,just like to mention newer ps2 plays dvdr better if anybody was interested such as harpazosrf.

sorted it! (well, it works on my ps2)

i started with the avi, changed it to an mpeg2 with tmpgenc,made the dvd with chapters using tmpgenc dvd author, then re encoded it with dvd shrink and it works perfect on my ps2

sorry, its a long time since i've been on here. Anyway, yeah, vcd's, avi's etc. i was having the same problem as you guys and then i just tried re-encoding it with dvd shrink and it worked ok.
