I have just purchased the above printer, it will be delivered in about 7 days and I would like to sought out any problems I am likely to have in advance of receiving it.

I intend to hook it up to a PC and a Mac, I would appreciate advise from any members of known problems I might experience. I also believe it can be set up to the Mac without cables by attaching a remote devise to the Mac .... can anyone confirm this is correct and give some details on the subject.

As far as I know, a LJ 5MP is just a LJ 5p with Postscript capability. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Have no idea about that may this "remote devise [sic]" you may be talking about, and what's so hard about running a cable to it any way?

    kschang,

Your correct about connecting a cable, it isn't a big deal, that said, if an IrDA-compliant infrared devise could be fitted to the Mac at the right price, I would elect to go that way.

    Thank you for your response.

You may be better off in getting a WiFi-A/B/G Print Server instead if you want wireless. Those run from $40-100, and appears as a networked printer.

The problem with LJ5's (and its sucessor, LJ1100 / 1300) is the paper pickup may grab too many pages and jams when it gets old. If you got a refurb unit you may already have this problem.

Online, those repair kits can run you about $20+ S&H. Check on eBay, as HP used to give out repairs kits for this issue for just S&H and now people are selling those kits for $2.95.

    And toner's kinda expensive.
