Before I open this 100 disc spindle...
could someone please advise if this is .... advisable. should i have purchased
should i have purchases media with a lower write speed, like 4 x. I always choose BEST quality with toast. And would prefer quality over speed.
I have the standard super drive shipped with power book aluminum G4's.
I will be recording to DATA, DIVX, AVI TO DVD, ETC,
Thanks for the forum, the help and all the quick replies.

Slower speed equals lower laser power but longer burns. If you are burning off battery, then faster burn is better, because the laser power is small compared to the rest of the laptop power req's.
I wouldn't have bought the superdrive. Too many people I know have problems with them. If you actually have to burn dvd's on battery power, then you'll need the superdrive.
Otherwise an external is not only much cheaper to buy (Tiger Direct and other are selling a CyberHome 16X +/-R dual layer firewire/usb 2.0 external for $70), but if it breaks, no big deal. If the internal SD breaks, you have to give the laptop to Apple for repairs. -
I would be surprised if the "standard" PB15 SuperDrive
will do 16-X discs. But you have to be specific. What does
system profiler say about the drive (manufacturer, product
ID, that sort of thing). Then you can find out the specs from
googling it.
If it's a 4-X write speed, take the 16's back. The drive will
spit out (often with snotty comment) discs rated higher
than it is. -
great,
thanks,
i will check the writer specs,
But as far as quality??

Memorex discs are sh!t.
There I said it, and say it loud.
Your best bet rich, is to always before you shop,
click the link on the left that says
DVD MEDIA
and enter the type of media you want to purchase.
Many of us here, myself included, work tirelessly
to report on diffrent types of media, and the
good bad and the ugly of same, so you don't
have to waste your cash.
Even burning Memorex at 1x speed won't matter because
they are craptacluar media. the discs do not burn well, the
media is often mastered to the cheapest of specifications.
Take these back to the store, and for what you paid
for them, exchange them for a 50 pack of TDK or Verbatim,
DVD-Rs. You can then burn these in your burner at 4x
speed, and get good quality playback and decent burns."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
