I'm looking for a cheap dvd player to use as a source for a sanyo drw 500 dvd+recorder. This is for my parents, so please don't go into the "better to do it this way" speech... I AGREE.... however I'm trying to make this as "vcr" like as possible![]()
That way they wont feel intimadated by the whole "dvd" thing.
Basically I need a dvd player to use as a source, so they can backup dvd's they own 8) without ME being there. What are my options here?
ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know there are no DVD players that will decrypted commercial DVDs. If there were it would be extremely popular!

The Philips DVP 642 is cheap, apparently available at Walmart (on their website for $60) and has hacks to make it macro free. Look it up in the players and hacks sections over there<<<<<<<<<.

There are a few DVD players out there that can can be hacked to disable the output of Macrovision, but if you're planning to go through a DVD recorder, there is another form of copy protection to deal with. CGMS/A. This will also make a DVD recorder stop the recording of a protected DVD.
If you've got to keep it simple and "VCR-like", your best bet would be to get the device shown here...

It not only masks Macrovision, but CGSM/A as well and connects between the video out of the DVD player and the video in of the DVD recorder. Once connected and powered, it will work automatically without any adjustment by the user.
