    Hi,
I have just purchased a DVP5990K to find out that my Sony Full HD TV doesn't support HDCP. Result: I can't take full advantage of 1080p resolution through HDMI conection. Question: HDCP is set on firmware or hardware? Is there a way to disable HDCP?

  2. you're kidding right? disable the copyright protection system they worked so hard to implement to prohibit copying 1080 material?

Sorry, I am not an expert. But if that was supposed to be a standard (copy protection), then Sony TV sets should be prepared to communicate with the HDCP DVD player. In short: disabling HDCP is not possible, right?

You are correct, HDCP can't be disabled.

How old is the TV? Does it have DVI instead of HDMI connections, requiring you to use an adaptor? I know some sets made a few years ago have DVI connections but don't properly implement HDCP, so upscaling via the newer model Phillips DVD players does not work. If that's the case and your TV has upscaling capability, you will have to use that instead.

    Hello, usually_quit
My TV is 1 year old. It doesn't have DVI, only HDMI connections. But I understand that I will have to accept that I won't be able to have 1080p. Thanks.

If your TV is a 2008 model, it should have HDCP. Did you check the TV's manual or the technical specs to be sure? It could be that either your DVD player or the TV has a defective component. Can you test both of them with other equipment that is known to be working properly?

  7. All HDMI tv's must support HDCP,my guess is the player is defective or the firmware is old.
Go to www.philips.com.br/index.page and see if there's a newer firmware.Another possibility is a bad cable or HDMI switch(if used).
