I am confused. What is the difference between XVID and DIVX? If they are not the same what program can I use to convert XVID and DIVX to DVD. Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

    1) No, not the same, but they share a lot of their specs.
    2) Any mpg encoder (+an assortment of other apps, as DivX/XviD is a video codec, whereas DVD (assuming Video DVD) is a format that even includes a disc)

DIVX is copyrighted, XVID is OpenSource.

They are both a subtype of MPEG4 codec.

But why do you need to convert from one to the other any way?

Maybe I didn't make myself clear in what I am trying to do. I want to convert a XVID to a DVD so I can play it on dvd player and watch it on my tv. Sorry for the confusion.

If you can play it, you can convert it. The question is how much flexibility do you need, or do you need an idiot-proof solution with NO options at all?

Besides, we have a bazillion guides on the subject of conversion. Look in the guides and I'm sure one of them will help you.

Thank you all for the feedback. I think I can figure it out now. Also I will look in the forums for advice if I run into problems. Thanks again.
