  1. i have this divx dvd player, and am wanting to know if anyone here knows EXACTLY the correct format/settings the video for XviD has to be for the player to play it correctly

xvid is the only problem i have with this player... the audio is out of sync with video , sometimes no sound at all... and the worst is sometimes the video is distorted in all diff colors but sound plays

if anyone has any info or a guide that can help me to convert xvid or to make the xvid play on this player WITHOUT any problems please respond!

  3. wow, thanks for this info , i found my solution from that page,... it was

QPel cannot be removed from an AVI. If your player doesn't play QPel, then you will have to re-encode the AVI

i hate to do it but its my only choice if i want a good playback

    thanks again for your help

  4. U know you can push the system menu 2 times & presto, your dvd picture should play right?

Left column, dvd players, search for yours.

That only works for the pixelated/funky color display problem. The 642 does not play QPEL...the file will not even load.

Nonsense. Only some Xvid videos contain QPEL. If you're making your own Xvid AVI files simply turn off the QPEL and GMC options.

My point was that both codecs can produce files with or without QPEL and GMC. If you don't want the features don't enable them when encoding. Most Xvid files I've downloaded do not use GMC.

In my opinion Xvid produces slightly better image quality (for a given file size) than Divx. Divx 6.1 does have a speed advantage if you use the faster settings ("Fastest" and "High Performance").
