I just installed a new version of XP on my computer, and the resolution is set by default at 640x480 and the colors are set to 4 bit, the lowest settings. When I go into Settings in Display Properties, it will not let me change the resolution or the Color quality. I tried to re-install it, and it did the same thing again. When the cd boots, I deleted the partition and created a new one, and installed XP on that one, but it still keeps these settings.
Also, when Windows boots up, the screen with the Windsows logo that appears at the beginning is in full color, but right after that the resolution/colors change the the lowest ones. Is there any way to overcome these settings?

Have you installed your video card drivers? You should be able to DL the latest ones from your video card manufacturer. If you have on-board video, go to the motherboard manufacturer and download the MB drivers that should include the video driver. You need them to adjust the video settings otherwise you are just using the generic XP drivers from the OS.

Thanks a lot, that was the problem. It seems obvious now. I didn't think of this because in the past when I didn't have my video driver installed, the resolution and colors were still set like normal, so I didn't connect the two points together. Thank you.
