  1. Hi there

I am quite new to this and have been reading the various guides on converting xvid to dvd. I am at a loss as to deciding the best way to go about it. I have a few xvid ac3 files which I would like to put onto one dvd disc ( a bit like a episonic disc). What would you guys recommend for this? I have read the Diko tutorial on doing this but do not know how to handle the ac3 sound.

I have a number of files and thus would be authoring more than one disc. I would like to therefore like the process to be as easy as possible while maintaining quality and sound.

Could anyone recommend anything for me? There are a number of great guides on converting xvid to dvd with ac3, but they all seem time consuming for doing many files. Also the problem of having multiple files on one disc is not convered. What would be the most efficient way at performing the task ahead?

    Many thanks

Buy a divx/xvid dvd player or htpc.

But doesn't diko or thefilmmachine or avi2dvd keep the ac3 if you convert to dvd? check the history or readmes if they mention anything about it.

Or else just convert each to mpv with an encoder like mainconcept mpeg encoder and then author all to one dvd with the ac3 audio(extract it with virtualdubmod).

DivxtoDVD (payware) will keep existing AC3 audio and do multiple files.

For a quick n dirty job, the old freeware version of divxtoDVD might do the job you require. Each file you add will be a seperate title. You could then bring each title back into your favorite authoring software if you wish to do menus etc, or just use the payware divxtodvd which will create menus for you.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Hey

    cheers for the replies

I might go ahead and buy divx2dvd. Just a question on the quality tho? How is it? I was impressed with the quality of the Diko conversion. Is the divx to dvd similar?

I read this guide on using TMPGEnc

    http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/70/59/1/1/

The guide seems great. However I am wondering if there is a way to batch process the encoding for multiple avi files? This is so I can set all the episodes to encode and then leave the computer over night and come back for them to be done?

Edit: does TMPGEnc allow for ac3 5.1 to be encoded (my original source is ac3 5.1)?

    Thanks

I've got the payware version of DivXToDVD and it's very good. There's quite a number of times now that I just use that. The quality and speed is excellent IMHO, but it's very much just a canned solution for when you have an excellent source.

TMPGEnc can do batch encoding - if using the wizard whilst following that guide, just tick the "create another project(s) for batch encoding" tickbox on the last page and it will step you back through the wizard again. Once you've loaded up all your jobs I think you then need to untick this box and tick the "Start encoding immediately" box and encoding should start. If not in the wizard, once you've set up your encoding options, templates etc etc you just go to File > Add current project to batch list > MPEG file. Then after you've loaded all your jobs up, go to File > Batch Encoding, and start it running.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Cheers

    I tried divx2dvd...

I now have a video_ts folder with for IFO files. I am unsure how to import these into an authoring program! Do I import the IFO or Vob files directly or do I have to demux them or nething?
(Im using trial of dvdlab pro)
    thanks alot

You'll want the VOB files, not the IFOs
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. ah thanks ill try that!

edit. I think I figured it out.

    I have one more question..
If I use TMPGEnc and follow that tutorial.. will the ac3 5.1 be preserved or will it be encoded back to 2 channels?

    thanks!

It will convert it to 2-channel MP2, but you can void that. Try this guide, click here.
