WORST VIRUS EVER --- CNN ANNOUNCED
PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!
A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by
Microsoft
as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday
afternoon
by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard
disk,
where vital information for its functioning are stored.
This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the
title:
"A Card for You".
As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so
that
the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button
are
pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying
the
hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New
York
according to news broadcast by CNN.
This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.
So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You." As soon
as
you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the sender !!!
Can you beleive this crap??? Do these people have nothing better to do??? Looks like I'm switching to linux for good. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this matter.
Peace,
DJ Tedness

Must be just as bad as the one from 2001: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/virtual.card.for.you.html

this is a hoax!
god, how many times have I gotten this email over the past 2 years....
check snopes.com.
there's no way for a virus, trojan, or any other malicious code to alter Sector Zero."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

This sounds just like every other hoax email on the planet. Just read it and compare it to others. I think they must be written by the same moron.
Does Microsoft actually classify any virii at all? I don't think so.
Right now... in your backyard... the worst virus ever. It attacks even you non-networked pcs and turns them into serial killing zombies that force their victims to model plastic halloween costumes prior to killing them!
Microsoft has listed this virus as the most destructive virus in the universe!
Hide your daughters, hide your money, hide yourself! There is no escaping the Romero virus! You certainly will die!

This "virus alert" is even older, but still funny....
VIRUS ALERT!!!
If you receive an email entitled "Badtimes," delete it immediately.
DO NOT OPEN IT!
Apparently this one is pretty nasty. It will not only erase everything on your hard drive, but it will also delete anything on disks within 20 feet of your computer.
It demagnetizes the stripes on ALL of your credit cards.
It reprograms your ATM access code, screws up the tracking on your VCR and uses subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you attempt to play.
It will re-calibrate your refrigerator's coolness settings so all your ice cream melts and your milk curdles.
It will program your phone autodial to call only your mother-in-law's number.
This virus will mix antifreeze into your fish tank.
It will drink all your beer.
It will leave dirty socks on the coffee table when you are expecting company.
It will replace your shampoo with Nair and your Nair with Rogaine, all while dating your current boy/girlfriend behind your back and billing their hotel rendezvous to your Visa card.
It will cause you to run with scissors and throw things in a way that is only fun until someone loses an eye.
It will give you Dutch Elm Disease and Tinitis.
It will rewrite your backup files, changing all your active verbs to passive tense and incorporating undetectable misspellings which grossly change the interpretations of key sentences.
If the "Badtimes" message is opened in a Windows95/98/NT environment, it will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub.
It will not only remove the forbidden tags from your mattresses and pillows, but it will also refill your skim milk with whole milk.
It will replace all your luncheon meat with Spam.
It will molecularly rearrange your cologne or perfume, causing it to smell like dill pickles.
It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold.
It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

I keep getting these stupid things. I even e-mail my well intentioned friends to please check the source (it's easy enough to do) before sending this stuff out. If you don't know HOW to check it - you probably shouldn't be forwarding it along. This is a copy of what I sent my brother-in-law after he sent me this (BTW - I don't know how - but he has a degree in computer science).
Commentary:
Although this virus hoax has been circulating since 2001, it is still going strong. There is not, nor has there ever been a virus that fits the characteristics of the one described in the email. There are Dutch, German, Spanish and Portuguese versions of the hoax as well as several English versions. All versions are equally false.
