Hi...I'm relatively new to all this and have, what some might find, a stupid question. But...I just downloaded some rar files and ran the exe and wound up with something called a 'bin' file. It's 600 mb's and is sopposed to be a video file...it was labeled 'tegvcd', if that helps at all...
I wound up here through a link that said it would explain how to play a bin file...But I haven't found anything even remotely similar to what I am lookimg for.
It's getting kinda down to the wire too, as I have a limited amount of memory left, but I don't want to throw out the rar files, in case I did something wrong and I need to extract them again. Menawhile, I'm also kinda under the gun when it comes to getting the other two CD's in the set downloaded. It's an extremely difficult FTP to get on to and I'd really like to get it all done at once...The next time I get on we could be celebrating yet ANOTHER x-mas, lol.![]()
Thanks for any and all help...

You need to burn the bin/cue with a program called CDRwin.
If you don't have a cdwriter then you can extract the contents of bin/cue images with a program called VCD Gear. -
Okay...First things first... Thanks for answering me, I realy, REALLY appreciate it...I was afraid I'd have to disconnect from the FTP before I had the chance to get all three cd's done.
I have a couple more questions for ya, if you don't mind...
First off... So it's okay to delete the rar files now? All I need to keep are the bin/cue files...? Or do I need to keep the sfv file as well...? Also, does that need to be burned on along with the bin and cue files...?
I'm almost done, lol...
Once the CD has been burned...Can I play it in my DVD player?
I don't know much about DVD's as I just got one for X-mas yesterday... But, I would like to be able to play this on it... Just to let ya know... It's a Toshiba-2710 that is DVD-Video / DVD-R / CD / VCD / CD-R / CD-RW compatible... And it says that it uses the NTSC color system and cannot play DVD video discs recorded in any other color system (PAL, SECAM). They might as well have written that in Chinese for all the sense THAT makes to me.
I'm thinking that you need to somthing other than standard burning in order to get them to play in a DVD Player, as I already had burned a TON of episodes that were labeled vcd-wow and when I put them in my DVD player to test it out, nothing would play...
That's all I guess...Again, Thanks a MILLION... I really am lost here...

Basicly, after you finished downloading all the RAR files and unrared them, you can basicly delete them and just burn the Cue/Bin files like WildStyle mentioned.
sfv file is a verification file that the checksum of the files was extracted correctly, you do not need to burn it, after you have unrared, it is not required.
As for burning and playing on the DVD, it depends on how those Cue/Bin files were authored, if it's a VCD/SVCD you should have no problem.
Lastrly, I suggest you get a nice CDRW media, and do testing on that, so you don't waste anymore CD's, as i've mentioned earlier, it depends on how the Cue/Bin files were authored, not every DVD Player can play everything, and Toshiba/Sony are known for causing problems.
Good Luck for now!

Great!!! Now I can delete those rar's!!!
Thanks so much...
Ummm...I used Nero to burn all my episode CD's. Can I use that for burning the cue/bin files?
Also, do the CD's need to be finalized before they can be played on my DVD player? I was thinking that that may be one of the reasons why the episode CD's wouldn't play. They all are vcd-wow, which my DVD player says it will play.
Again...THANK YOU!!!

Metal Girl,
from what I've heard, NERO isn't too good at burning bin/cue images. If you don't have CDRwin (www.goldenhawk.com), you could download the complete version of VCDEasy (freeware) from this site, as it includes support for burning bin/cue images as well (in VCDEasy look under Tools>CDRAO-Tools). -
I see what ya mean about Nero, lol.
I shoulda held off, but I decided to give it a shot and see what happens. I used my Nero and burned the file, only to run the exe and have no sound. grrr arggghhh!!!
I'm off to go download CDRWIN... I'll give that a try tomorrow and I guess we'll just see what happens then.
Thank You all for your time, and especially for your patience. I know I can be a wee bit thick at times.
Ummm...if I run into any problems...Can I come back and pick yer brains again?

Huh...
Well...I just tried the burned cd in my dvd player (before I was just trying it out on my comp) and it's working...Only thing is, well...let's just say the picture isn't exactly flawless.
There seems to be quite a bit of funky looking things going on within the picture itself, lol. It looks as if it's coming through via my digital satellite, and the reception isn't what I'd call ideal, to say the least. Every so often the picture will dissolve into a whole bunch of little squares...I think they are called pixels...? Also, at times it can be quite choppy.
My question is...Is this a result of my having used Nero to burn it? Do you guys think that maybe, if I burn it over again using CDRWIN, that the quality might be somewhat better?

This could have a number of different reasons:
1) It could be due to NERO not burning the file correctly, so in this case using cdrwin or VCDEasy would probably help.
2) Perhaps the quality of the video that you've downloaded isn't too good in the first place. You could extract the video from the bin file using vcdgear (www.vcdgear.com), as WildStyle has suggested, and see if its the same when you play back the video on your computer.
3) You DVD-Player might not like the brand of CD-R(W) that you're using. I've had very similar results with one batch of no-name media, whereas others work fine in my player. Also take a look at the compatibility chart for your DVD-player to see if it supports CD-R at all. Most newer models do, but it can't hurt to make sure that's not it. -
