alright i don't know how to explain this.

I was putting together a video for my grandmothers 80th birthday party..pretty straightforward..just some video taken from the event and a slideshow i made previously. authored it and tested it in my standalone dvd player. I was having problems this morning with the burner though..it would keep spinning down and failing on rw's and even on one dvd-r but then it seemed to start working again..i cranked about 5 out then it failed on another. When checking the stats it said there was a power calibration error.

I did some research and updated the firmware, tried cleaning out the drive and even hooked it up in another computer. Now when I put these dvd-r's i just burned in the drive it says it's a blank cd! I thought ok that's weird..the drive must really just be on it's way out. but then i took it to our laptop dvd drive and it says the same thing! It says the media is blank or invalid. When I put it in my standalone dvd player however it comes up and works fine....any explanation for why this might happen?

the dvd was authored the same way i always author them...

  2. It sounds like it is time to replace the drive.
