We have had the RC5240P DVD player for a couple of years. For the most part it has worked well and plays things without issue (although I would not say that we have really tried to test all of the features/playing capabilities). The only issue we have had and the reason for my correspondence here is that the physical DVD drive itself is having an issue. I took the top off and can clearly see that the disc simply is not spinning. It sounds as though it should be spinning, and there are clearly noises from the drive, but no spinning. It almost seems as though there is not enough friction between the drive unit and the disc. I am considerting 3 options at this point, and was not sure if there would be a recommendation from this group.

    1) add some sort of pad to the point where the drive engages the disc to increase the friction between the two.

    2) replace the drive with another compatible one. If this is the best option.. the player is an RCA model RC5240P. The drive itself is labeled KHL-232H(N) 011216A-0974TU.

    3) replace the DVD player.

    4) Other thoughts?

Appreciate any ideas from the group.

    Thank you!

I really think (3) will be your best option. You might be able to replace the drive, but the firmware in the player may not accept it.

If you want to try a repair, (1), go ahead, but with the price of DVD players these days, you have to consider what your time is worth.

Unfortunately, this is the age of disposable electronics.

I agree, replacing it is the best option.

If you have time and money to waste, feel free to experiment and attempt fixing it yourself. But it is much less hassle to just get another.

If you do not know how to replace a Drive Spindle Motor I'd suggest purchasing a new player. The motors are interchangeable amongst players (space not withstanding) but for someone who has never done it and if you don't happen to have spare dead players around with a good motor the cost in time and patience may be better spent on new equipment.
