Hi grimee1,
Because of the numerous tools and methods available to do this, there is no "best" and easiest - the two are usually mutually exclusive, and one person's opinion will differ from another.
There's generally two categories:
1) "All-in-one" tools - Quicker and easier, but common opinion is that you get less control over what's going on and so may end up with less quality.
See the "All-In-One DVD Converters" in the "Tools" section.
2) Use dedicated tools for each step of the process (capture, edit, encode and author) - longer and more to learn, but more control and (once mastered) you should get excellent results from excellent quality source material (e.g. DV AVI).
See the "Video Encoders (MPG/DVD)" in the "Tools" section.
Of course, GIGO still applies...
Good luck. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Thanks for the reply and help i will look at the all in one.. for more help. But let me ask this question if there was a all in one which one would u use. Quality not all that important its just for me at home.
Again thanx... -

I'm a him, he
I would still recommend you learn the long way as daamon mentions, even if you try 'the quick and easy' way. You will find some videos that DivxToDVD can't handle.
This is a hobby to most of us and tinkering with the encoding options and getting the best quality out of a conversion is very satisfying. It takes a little reading and experimenting, but I have always found it worthwhile. -
