    i recently bought a dell computer with a NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A
i use to be able to burn at 8x but recently after installing nero 7 and buying a cheap brand of dvd-r 4x my burning has been very slow like speeds at 1.5-1.8x. I also realize that when i play the cheap brand dvd-r on my computer it is rather slow loading and sometimes just freezes, but when i try them on my divx player they are perfectly fine. it is the same on my dvd-rom too. Can someone plz help me on this issue. I can burn the dvds no problem but when i play them they seem jumpy in the sound and rather slow. help me on my slow burning and crappy quality dvdsssss plzzzzz

    thx

There's a good chance your drive reverted to PIO mode from the faster DMA mode.

To check DMA/PIO mode within Windows:

    Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

From there, right click on one of the channels and choose 'Properties>Advanced Settings'. All drives should be DMA mode. The 'Current Transfer Mode' for Hard drives is usually DMA 4-6 and DVD burners DMA 2-4, DVD ROMs usually DMA 2. If you see any in PIO mode, that can slow things down.

Changing them back may be easy or complicated. First see if you can change them in that window. If not, I usually uninstall the channel and let the OS reinstall it. This will usually take a reboot.

From there, if no luck, get back to us.

    EDIT: Here's an explanation:
