I'm having problems with still images in Adobe Encore 1.5. Is it a bug or user error?

In both cases, I have silence while the still image is onscreen, I have not attached any kind of background music and I don't want any.

Problem #1: I author the DVD of dance performances, using a playlist to set up a "play all" where I alternate a 4-second still image title slide with the dancer's name, then clip of her, then another 4-second still of another dancer's name, then clip of her, etc. When I hit play and let it run, it works great. However, if I hit the button on the remote to skip to next chapter break, it ignores the next still image and goes straight to the motion clip. It does this throughout the play all.

Problem #2: I modified the avi file in Adobe Premier, inserting the 4-second still image at the very beginning of the corresponding avi file and re-saved it. When I play it back in Intervideo WinDVD, it plays perfectly, the still image endures 4 seconds just like it's supposed to. Looking at avi file properties, it indeed says that the file with the still image inserted is 4 seconds longer than the original. So the Adobe Premier editing and export appears to have produced a valid file that behaves as desired. However, when I import that file into Encore, and try to play it in Encore, it appears to keep only the first frame and discards the rest of the still frames. So the opening frame flashes by rapidly and then the clip goes directly into the motion. When I write to DVD, this problem is transferred to the DVD.

Any advice on how to make Encore navigate properly with still images and display them for the correct length of time?
