I converted my Widescreen DVD to MP4. Resolution is awesome from the MPEG4 file. Then I converted it to PSP format w/ ffmpegx, which I've paid for (yeah!). I transferred to my PSP and the aspect looks odd. I tried the PSP's screen format that fills the screen but the video still seems stretched in the vertical axis.

Are there some settings I need to adjust to get the aspect ratio perfect? I know that all DVDs are NOT create equal, so I'm open to suggestions on which settings to change.

  2. Which image size did you use?

Actually, I used the default and then I noted your FAQ. I'm trying your first screen recommendation to see how it looks.

OK so Stars DVDs are 2.35:1. On your site, it says "If your source is 2.35;1 you must prior reverse it to 16:9 by using black bars."

What does prior reverse mean and how do I do that? I picked 368x208 and the movie was still stretched in the vertical direction, regardless of screen mode chosen on the PSP.

  5. PSP supports only 16:9 resolutions, like 368x208, so if your movie is 2.35:1 (which would lead to 368x160) you must add black bars (Options tab, "letterbox" fields) at top and bottom so as the aspect is back 16:9.

The only way to make the letterbox checkbox active is to select "Decode with QT". Do I need to do that as well? Otherwise, it's grayed out.

    I've downloaded 0.9u as well.

  7. Not the checkbox : the letterbox fields. They are in the filters tab, on the right side.

Actually I did the checkbox/letterbox for QT and it came out pretty good, albeit w/ bars on top/bottom.

If I use the letterbox fields, how do I determine what number to put in each box?

  9. With a calculator. To go from 368x160 to 368x208 there is 208-160=48 pixels padding, so 24 top and 24 bottom.
