i've been using the drive for about a month now got it off of ebay. until recently my burns were real slow. Someone suggested checking for dma is on so i did the unistall reboot ide channel thing and that worked out. Now i ran into a another situation when i stick my 8x disc, my burn app says its 4x and then i had some 4x disc and now those are saying max speed is 2x ??? what gives ,so somebody on another board suggested updating the firmware for it ,but everytime i try to do it keeps sayin restart the comp and keeps sayin this over and over again without updating at all...Its currently on 1.0d and tryin to update to 2.1g but its not working

I am assuming that when the drive went into read faliure and pio mode. it messed up something along the lines..firmware reinstall fresh did the trick. and all my media is recognized at the proper speeds..

back on like buttered toast and jelly
