I just recently started having a problem burning DVD's of all types. The first problem I noticed was that discs were hanging up when watching video on discs I had burned. Then I started having multiple burn errors in Nero. I have tried multiple brands of discs, multiples programs and am still getting no where. Today I tried a new burner and am having the same problem. I also changed the IDE cable and no luck. Does this mean there is a problem with the IDE port. I have a CD burner on the same port, but I started having problems with it a few months before the DVD burner started having problems. Thanks for any help.

it's probably due to media but you can check other things also. First of what software are you using to backup the DVD when you rip it and compress it? ()if you are backing up )

firstly disconnect the CD burner and try a burn to see what happens. You could also try burning with DVDDecrypter or something else as a test to see if you get the same issues

    process of elimination

I have used DVD Decrypter to remove the files and DVD Shrink to compress them. Then I have tried burning with Nero and Copy To DVD. I have tried disconnecting the CD Burner. How would I burn with DVD Decrypter? I have also tried connecting the DVD Burner to the other IDE port and I am still having the same problem. Thanks for the help.

you would output the files from DVDShrink as an ISO (not files) and then burn it via DVDDecrypter

Put your DVD burner as Master (check jumpers) on your Secondary Eide Channel

I've seen that it's been mentioned that this error could be the software doing something your drive doesn't support but who knows

do you have a log from Nero handy when it failed and did DVDDecrypter produce a log?

do you have any software like AnyDVD or DVD43 running also?

just a quick question though it probably isn't teh reason. Have you tried this without the CD-R burner in and having the DVD burner as Master on the secondary channel?

what was your setup when you used DVDDecrypter?

do you have any RW's? You could also try making a small mini DVD with DVDShrink by using the reauthor and use that to test whether it will burn or not

I am sorry, but it looks like I overlooked a very simple solution. I have burned 3 straight successful discs. It is looking like I am not able to burn at 8x. I have had the problem at 2x, but it looks like that may have just been a fluke thing. Burning at 2x and 4x seems to be working now. I really don't understand why I can't burn at 8x though. I really thought my PC is fast enough to keep up. Thanks again for everything and please let me know if you have any ideas about why I am having to slow it down.

Check the Device Manager and make sure UDMA is enabled for your IDE Controllers (Primary Channel and Secondary Channel). Any Devices running in PIO mode could be causing a problem, the Hard Drive(s) and DVDRW should be running in at least UDMA 2. The log you posted shows UDMA is disabled. (If I am reading it right, I am not an expert on Nero log files).

I am not having any luck getting UDMA enabled. My Bios shows UDMA as AUTO in all drives and in Windows it shows UDMA as the Current Transfer Mode. Whenever I burn a disc in NERO it still says that DMA is off on all drives. I have had a lot of system reboots lately and I have heard that it will default to PIO after this. I tried uninstalling all the drives in Device Manager and letting Windows reinstall on the reboot, but everything is still the same. Any ideas.

Well I finally got UDMA enabled. At least it shows to be in Nero logs now, but it has not made difference. I am getting about 1 successful burn in 6 no matter what speed or media I use. The video on the successful ones still lock up at times as well. So I have no ideas what is going on. Here is the latest Nero Log if anyone has an idea.

If you don't get a response here, you might try asking at http://club.cdfreaks.com the folks there are very knowledgeble on troubleshooting stuff like this. (Not that there are not people like that on this forum).

CDfreaks is a bit more specialized in the cd/dvd burning area, while video help, is well, specialized in video (though the two do share common ground). Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck!
Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think.
