Don't know if this is the correct forum, but here goes. I would like to insert some German characters into english text--most importantly, the "umlaut"--it's like a vowel with quotation marks above it. You could do it in Word with it's overstrike feature, but that won't work for my application. Any clues? Did a search and same question was raised last year but with no solution.

I could also download a "german" font that already has these characters. How would I use them with my QWERTY keyboard?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi wwaag,

Try finding the German characters in your desired font using the Character Map. You can select the desired character(s) and copy them to the clipboard for pasting into another application.

If you can't find the shortcut to it from the "Start" menu (it's under Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools on WinXP), do Start -> Run -> Type in "charmap" (no quotes) -> Enter

    You should get this:

There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

    thanks daamon.

Tried this. Found that whether it works depends upon your application. I'm trying to use it in Momento, a slideshow program from Canopus. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Whenever you "paste" the character, it returns a "?".

For grins, I tried some other applications. Found that it worked fine for Photoshop, Premiere PRO, and surprisingly, the latest version of TDA PRO. Did not work for Vegas Movie Studio.

Oh well, it's not that big a deal anyway. Again, thanks for your reply.
