hi, please can someone help, i am going to try and explain this as best i can so bear with me, i have recorded 2 episodes of little britain on my home dvd recorder, i recorded them on a dvd-rw disc, the disc is now full, what i now want to do is take them off the dvd-rw and compress them ready to burn onto a normal dvd-r, as i want to try and fit around 4 or 5 episodes on one dvd, i normally use dvd-shrink for anything else but it will not read these files, when i explore the disc i have a folder called DVD_RTAV, inside this folder are 3 icons VR_MANGR.BUP and VR_MANGR.IFO and also VR_MOVIE.VRO, i know the last one is the movie but i just cant work out what program i can use to open the file and more important how to shrink it down, the current file size is 3.86Gb but i would like to at least 1/2 that size, can someone please help as it driving me mad.

    Cheers Pete

  2. I believe you need a program that can open VRO files and I think I am correct in saying that TMPGenc DVD author can read these.

Here is a link to the program,

If you do a search on this forum for VRO files you should be able to find out more.

Once you have been able to open the files you can then shrink them down using DVDshrink.
Go into the preference settings and set the target size of the file you want.

From another forum: Well, with DVDRW, you will get traditional DVD-Video files than can be copied and run through any authoring program. With RAM, you will get one large "VRO" file than can be re-named "MPG" and run through any authoring program.
I haven't tried it yet but it's worth a try.

Some DVD recorders will allow you to set it to record in VR mode or DVD-Video mode. If you can change yours to record in DVD-Video mode then you'll have the typical ifo and bup files and DVDShrink will open the disk.

From my own experiance (Whatever that's worth) VRO files are a format that my E80H Panasonic DVR will create on RAM disks..Don't know about the info that was stated concerning TMPGenc DVD Author, cause I've never used it for VRO files, but in all my instances, I've transferred it from the Disc it was created on, to my PC Harddrive, renamed it MPG., and re-authored it that way..One way to shrink it is to reduce the bitrate of the MPG..that'll take away some of the size, but it'll also reduce the quality somewhat, depending on how much you reduce the original bitrate it was created at..

Author a new, oversize DVD using TDA. It will give a warning regarding the size, just choose ignore. After creating the folder structure on the disk you should be able to open it with DVDShrink.
