Hi, was wondering if I might be able to get some recommendations here. Ideally what I need to do is have a kind of DVD template where the content is the same across much of the DVD however there will be 1 - 3 short video clips that are unique to the individual that buys the DVD (basically it is them in some interactive exhibits). The DVD has to be burned when the individual decides they would like to purchase it so the video files that pertain to the individual have to be put into the project and then burnt to disc. I need to create an application where all the retail attendant has to do when a customer requests a DVD is to press a button that says "Burn" and the user video files are identified from a bar code scan.

Is there a way to make a DVD project and export it to an XML file format so I can then edit the file and put in the paths to the video files that relate to the individual? Is this the right way to go on this or am I off base with this approach? Any recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  2. If you can create an application with barcode support, xml support and some kind of batch processing, dvdauthor might be the choice...
The full authoring process in dvdauthor is controlled by quite simple xml files. To 'burn' you can use cdrtools + ImgBurn or nero

DVD Author would be the logical choice if you have to build the DVD from scratch each time. However if there is a known list of possible combinations, a simpler approach would be to create them all, store them as ISOs, and simply burn the one required when ordered. Otherwise you have to go through the compile process everytime, which slows down the delivery to the customer.

Not necessarily... You can 'precreate' several titlesets (the fixed content), add the 'customer clips' as additional titlesets and just recreate the video_ts.ifo each time. It is possible with dvdauthor in cli mode. If also special menus (individual content) are required, it may be necessary to run the build from scratch each time.
