Try a different brand of media. Just because it's Memorex and Pioneer say it works, doesn't mean that particular Memorex is the same media. I don't know about Memorex, but media companies use different brands at times, made at different locations. If you have a way to scan the media code, that could tell you the exact version.

I don't see any media comments yet in the 'DVD Recorder' listing to the right. Too new? I just ordered a 633H-S, so I'm looking for the best media also. You might check CDFreaks, they seem to keep up on media compatibility.

  4. okay i can try an other brand....
but i just put 40$ for that 100 dvd-r pack one because thats all best buy had.....& i thought since i bought this unit for 400$ it was more compatible with many medias.....

this is Really a bad thing....
it's frustrating to have to do 50 stores to find THE brand THE speed that works with THE recorder........

I don't see why they sell those thing with that kind of compatibility they should put a 150$ tag on it & say BETA VERSION

I've used both TDK 16x and Verbatim 16x in the 520, which may be a model slightly older than yours. Possibly another brand or two as well, but those are the ones I recall. I think the Verbatims might be your best bet. (As redwudz said, just the brand might not tell the whole story.) These models only have an 8x burner in them, so faster media is no advantage.

The 8x media is reportedly getting phased out, so if you want 8x, now might be the time to stock up. Chain stores like Staples, Office Depot, and Best Buy are often having specials on 8x spindles. (Perhaps the Mfr.s are dumping their stock of 8x.) Among these occasionally you can find 8x spindles from Sony, Maxell, or Fuji that are Made in Japan, and those are the ones to get. You may have to hunt around for them.

  6. The newer 531 is capable of X12. Again from the manual,
