Unable to watch recently burned movies

Recently myself and a friend have noticed that we have not been able to watch our burned movies, what happens is the movie begins to break up and the locks up in our dvd players. I have an LG Dual Layer Burner and have been burning for a few months without issues.
I had thought it was my dvd player at first because its almost 5-6 years old now. Toshiba dvd player. But when I got a dvd from a friend and tried watching it on my pc dvd player I had the same problem.

Im not sure how many of my dvd's are effected by this but I will be watching a lot of movies very soon to find out.

I have been using DVD Shrink? and..dvd copy I believe are the names of the programs.

Any help would be great.

Sounds like a media problem. Have you tried different brands? Also check the burned disc surface for blotches or irregularities. And does it always break up in the same place? Did those DVDs play properly just after you burned them?

If it does it with any burned DVD, then it would generally point to the player having problems. But they would usually occur in different places on the disc. The player may be locking up because it's can't track the 'grooves'. You would hear a lot of 'seeking' noise from the player and the disc may be overly warm to the touch. The last can also occur with a problem disc.

Well I tested it last night with the movie I was having issues with and I had no problems watching it on my pc, there are a couple of scratches to the dvd but nothing that I would think that could cause an issue since I have some dvd's that are badly scratched and work fine in my dvd player.

I havnt tried a different brand of dvd-r yet, but I will be buying more this friday so I will try something else instead, currently I am using Hyundai dvd's and have seemed to work up till recently with the one I had a problem with.
What I have noticed is that its random times on different burned dvd's that it begins to break up, I had burned Monsters Inc a month ago and I couldnt get it to play the movie and sometimes wouldnt even get to the main screen for the options.
I dont normally have time to try them right after I burn them, normally in a rush and dont have time to watch it all the way through but normally I put them into my dvd player and check to see if I can select different chapters and make sure that it plays from each of those points.

Ya, I have heard my dvd player trying to seek for stuff as well, sometimes it cotinues to play with no issues and other times it just stops and grinds away till I shut it off.

Sounds like media - possibly. Though I think it is really your player. Pop these burns on to another player. Preferably a newer model and might see that they play just fine. Sometimes old player drive systems start to slip so they cannot maintain a steady RPM and you will get the "seeking" problem. Mine did that till it finally died. The cure,,, a new one.

You can also run your burns through Nero CD/DVD Speed to check for read errors. If it passes with flying colors it simply means that the particular drive you used to read the DVD was able to read it.

Please stop using low quality media This day you can get Taiyo Yuden from Supermedia store or RIMA for about 35 to 50 cents a piece. This will certainly eliminate the bad media variable out of the equation.

I had this issue a while back and thought it was media. Then I bought a new burner (Lite-On SOHW-1673S (old one was a Sony DRU510-A)), and I haven't had a problem since.

Just a thought.
