  1. Hi and thanks for any advice.

Am using a Panasonic DVD stand-alone TV recorder/player. Taking the recorded DVD-RAM disc and downloading to the PC for editing and finally burning to DVD-R.

Have for the first time tried copying some home VHS (PAL) to DVD.
After downloading to the PC and attempting edits with NeroVision Express, TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, Mpg2Cut2 or V-Dub-MPG all fail. Part of the way through a "vertical split screen" effect appears in the editor window. One part remains static while the other continues to show the recorded track.

The edited video appears to be part 704*576 then 352*576. Any ideas how to correct this?

Windows media player and Power DVD play the un-edited data data OK.

When creating DVD this way from a digital camera or TV I have not noticed this problem - probably time base instability?

This Forum has been a real font of knowledge in solving the problems I have run into with DVD and video capturing over the years. I appreciate your help

Has this happened with more than one PAL tape?

Open the RAM file in VirtualDubMod and scan it throught using the slider at the bottom.

If you don't get the error, try frameserving from VirtualDubMod to TMPGEnc to get your mpeg file.

  5. Hello MysticE
I have tried another VHS to DVD copy using a new tape recorded on my brothers VCR and played back using the his VCR. It did happen again.

Plays the original DVD-RAM data on Windows Media player perfectly

    Thanks for your reply!

    Regards

  6. Hi Rob,
VirtualDubMod has the same edit problem as the other editors tried.

Thanks for your idea - I think I will try playback from the PC (TV out) to the DVD recorder and re-record the DVD. It is a lossy process but can't see another option right now.

    Regards

Why don't you just frame serve out of Virtual Dub but in two portions - the 'good' and 'bad' (but with only one of the two split screens output) parts, but with TMPGenc making two files of equal resolution and bitrate then join up the files?
    Regards,
