    I recently read this artical on the new TCRT TVs;
    The flat-panel technology is called surface-conduction electron emitter display (SED). The first televisions to use SED will be available in 2005, with full-scale production under way by 2006. Screen sizes and prices will be similar to those of plasma-based televisions, but the SED sets will offer better overall picture quality, according to the company.

    Are they available in the USA yet, if so, what are they selling for ???

  2. No. Limited USA availability spring 2006. The inital cost will be higher than plasma due to marketing, production costs and consumer interest. A 55" version at full HD resolution (1920x1080) will sell for what a same sized Plasma costs now. AUS & US general availability 2007/2008. Computer monitor versions 2008/2009

    limited units on display now -- offline is exactly correct in time frame and price ..

    pics and specs here ...

    The specs are simply stunning - 1ms response time, 100000:1 contrast ratio and 1920x1080 resolution. It will probably rival OLED as the successor to Plasma and LCD screens. Verdict of hardware.fr, this technology performs much better than anything they've seen until now.

    Looks like they finally figured out how to implement better blacks on screen. That makes a huge difference, may even outstrip the gamut of a CRT like that.
