  1. Is there a program that can verify the compliance of a DVD-Video and its encoded tracks?

I just tried out NeroVision 4, and the resulting disc will not play in my Panasonic player downstairs. However I'm not even sure how to begin diagnosing whether the fault is in the encoders, the DVD writer, or the DVD player. Maybe there's a software program that can help?

Unless someone knows of something, there are only scanners that simply scan for erros and readability of the data written and not whether the disc will play of not on a given machine. The only way is to test the finished DVD in MANY machines and pc DVD drives. The way the dvd is structured is the important point.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

NVE4 may not be 100% compliant. A lot of that all-in-one software isn't.

There are tools to tell you the attributes of the MPEG videos, tools to scan the compliance of the audio, tools to scan the readability of a disc. But for the authoring aspect, you just sort of have to know. I also don't know of any software to read for that, at least not to "normal people" like us. The way to test is to play on many different players and see how the disc reacts to things like chapter marks, FF, play, stop, eject, etc.

  4. I'd use DVDShrink to see if there are any potential errors.

Make sure your streams are compliant (easy enough) and author them with a quality app that creates compliant title sets and warns you if your project is anything other than compliant. DVD Lab Pro is a great one I would recommend using. After it creates the title set, use ImgTool Classic to build the ISO image file and burn it to DVD using DVDDecrypter. You won't get much more compliant than that, IMO.

  6. It's not something as simple as your player not liking your choice of media, is it ?

Try the disc on another player and see if it performs any better.

I doubt that NVE4 can be considered as "that kind of all-in-one software", regarding burning.
NVE4 is a part of Nero 7 Suite and therefore uses Nero Burning Room.

I've been using Nero Burning Room for ages and have never experienced any troubles (TEAC CD writer and NEC DVD writers) on my 2 machines XP pro and 98SE.

NVE4 is an all-in-one. All-in-one software is where you capture, edit, encode, author and burn all in one program. And almost ALWAYS you are limited to a severe degree in the options along the way. Not good.

As mentioned, nobody as really got a definitive answer to whether you can confirm if the 'compliance' of the DVD will definitely work on your particular player before putting to disc. Just check that your authoring stage and set-up is fine and that your app is good for the job.

    Failing that:-Get some RW discs!!!!

    Well, the issue here is:
Why NeroVision 4 resulting disc will not play in that Panasonic standalone player.
I wanted to point out that Nero Burning Room (used by NVE4) could not be blamed for the trouble, upon my experience.
As for All-In-One software, I have had great results with NVE2 and 3, and with VSO DivxToDVD. I would say they are optimal solutions for newbees and for those simple home video projects.
Just because they are limited in the options for serious or professional work - I wouldn't agree that they are not good.

Compliance due to fault of an all-in-one is only one of many possible problems. It may be it, and it might not be either. Only reason I mentioned it, like to carefully and slowly rule things out one by one until the flaw is found.

  12. There are all kinds of pissibilities.

    Mpeg Encoder
    Authoring
    Layout
    Burning Software
    Media
    DVD Burner and Firmware
    System

I usually check Edit and Author with Studio 9 or LE 6.1. Then I test my content with power DVD in file mode first. Then I use Nero to actually burn a test disc and try it in my philips 642 or apex 5131. I then duplicate with my acard 2033s duplicator. I have had good results.

I use 3 Pioneer 108s, 4 Pioneer 110s and I am currently using TDK Printable 16X media from Costco. DVD-R's.

You could use nero to verify that the disc is readable and without errors after the burn. This would be the first step to test the integrity of the data itself. If the Data is no good then the disc will have problems.
