Hi everyone!
Just need a little help. I recently purchased the Sony external dvd dual layer burner (DRX-810UL). When I rip in decrypter, do I have to put the commercial dvd in the new burner, or can I still use my old burner to rip? I tried a movie and ripped with ISO read, and in the settings I did change file spilting to "none" under the ISO read mode tab. Everything was going great, the ISO file was being created, then about half way through (the movie is about 8 gbs), I got an error saying file too big. Are there any settings I should be changing in DVD Decrypter? Thanks in advance!

Try changing the File Splitting option back to "Auto" then re-try it..

I forgot to mention, at first, file spliting was on auto and it created 2 folders instead of a complete ISO. I think they were IOI files or something like that. Each size was about 3.99 gbs which is when I figured out there must be a size limit. When I changed file spliting to none, that's when it actually began to create the ISO folder. Then I got the size error after it became too big.

You can use your old drive or the Sony to rip the commercial disc. I have the same drive and I use DVD Decrypter for single and dl rips and burns, default settings, I haven't had a problem with it.[/b]

It would help to fill out your computer profile. If you are using FAT32, I could see a problem. Why are you ripping to one file? Planning to convert to Xvid or similar? If you are ripping to backup a DVD, just leave DVDDecrypter settings at default.
Your DVD may need DVDFab Decrypter, though DVDDecrypter likely wouldn't have made it that far if it was a encryption problem.
You could use either drive to rip, use the faster one.
BTW, what does dvd+r dl media got to do with ripping?
EDIT: Now I got it.You are trying to back up a commercial DVD to a dual layer disc. ISO read > ISO write.

What version of DVD decrypter do you have? Mine might be outdated, I haven't checked it in awhile. But it creates the big ISO file no problem?

Ok, let me ask you this...What operating system are U using?? Windows XP, ME, Win 98??... may have something to do with your hard drive being in a FAT 32 format vs. NTFS..Just a guess...eliminating the most basic offf from the git go...You don't list anything in your profile to give me an indication as to your operating system...

Newest and LAST version of Decrypter is 3.5.4.0..Latest version can be dl'ed here:

I do have a FAT 32 file system. My computer is only a 40 gb, so I have the Western Digital 80 gb external hard drive that I rip stuff to. I also have xp. I did go in and reset the defaults in DVD Decrypter. I started it, and instead of creating an ISO image, it is creating a IOO file. Any suggestions on how I can get it to create one large ISO image?

Need to change over from a FAT32 to a NTFS... FAT32 will not handle anything over 4GB in size...That measn, unless someone else in here corrects me, you need to reformat your harddrive to a NTFS format..

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!! I have not done this, but came across it linked in one of the threads in here...
http://www.ntfs.com/quest3.htm
says you can "CONVERT" your hard drive from Fat32 to NTFS without any data loss..I've never tried it, so Do so at your own peril..Other than that being your only " riske' " means, you'd have to clean everything off your hard drive and start all over from the beginning with a clean install of everything.. -
What RDS1955 said. If you do the conversion, first back up your important files.
There is always some risk when doing any process that makes a major change to your system.
If you have a dual layer burner and XP, I would definitely recommend a NTFS drive setup. FAT32 is just too limited. Then you should be able to do the ISO read > write to dual layer. (If you can afford the media.)

First of all, why are you using ISO read in the 1st place? From everything I've read up until now using DVD Decrypter, if you want to rip a commercial or any other dvd, you want to use File or IFO mode. I have never ever used ISO mode to rip a dvd. I would recommend reading some of the guides 1st before you jump into this.

Slacker - I don't know what you have been reading, because unless you need to do somethig else with files, ISO is generally the recommended method. This is especially true when working with DL to DL backups, as you get an exact copy of the disk.
Read my blog here.

Slacker:
at Least 2 of the many guides I've checked show using the ISO mode in DVDDecrypter...For my understanding, you have less chance of running into errors as the software is only focused/working on one file vs. a number in IFo/File mode when burning it as an ISO/IMG file..

Thank you everyone for your help. I didn't have any files on the external hard drive, so all I had to do was a disk cleanup, then convert the western digital hard drive to NTFS which was very simple since I had nothing on the drive. Now both my C drive and F drive are NTFS. Then when I started up DVD Decrypter and ran ISO read mode, it took the whole movie and created the image file which is about 8 gbs. I did another movie too, and it also worked perfectly in creating a 7 gb image file. Now all I had to do is put the image files back into DVD Decrypter and burn them onto a DVD+R DL disk in my new Sony external burner. ISO read, then ISO write. Easy peasy!! Thanks everyone for all the advice and recommendations.

Don't forget to change the booktype to dvdrom! (assuming Sony's can do that)

Is that correct?
