I love milk, always have. I've always drank alot of milk.

BUT for the last like 2 weeks it seems everytime I've drank milk there has been a strange faint taste to it. Like its starting to go bad. But in some cases the out day is over a week away.

Tonight what I'm drinking is Ultra Pasteurized, meaning is that stuff with the insane dates. This one doesn't go out until 12/14/05 because of that. Also its chocolate milk, yet the taste is still here.

Anyone had something like this happen?

Happens from time to time. Try switching brands or stores. Sometimes though you're stuck.

Ultra-Pasteurized tastes different anyway becasue of the higher temps used - more protein denaturing.

Are you taking any new meds?

Tumor.... Guess that one caught me off guard.

As for your avatar, even if google didn't have it, I believe it's still sitting somewhere in a thread next to an oscar trophy if you recall.

I'm also a HUGE milk fan....or at least I used to be back home in the states. European milk takes some getting used to in my opinion.....and that "Super Milk" (Ultra Pasteurized)?.....I only buy in complete desperation. That stuff has a strange "nutty" taste to it that drives me up a wall....but it is really good in the morning coffee.
No low-fat, skim, 2%, 1% shit milk for me....give me real milk and I'm a happy guy.
Big tall glass of real milk and a package of your favorite chocolate chip cookies....now there is a little piece of heaven right there on my living room sofa....

Well no I'm not on any meds. And yeah the ultra stuff taste different, I only get it because thats all that there is in the vending machine at work.

I dunno, its just weird that I have been unable to enjoy milk lately. After the first few times I knew it was just me but still... odd.

Yes, it seems to happen every year.

My guess is that the dairy cows have switched from eating hay in the fields to eating silage.

I believe you may be onto something. I grew up on a farm and we got UN-pasteurised milk right from the tank for our own use. (BTW, drinking unpasteurised milk is a great way to get a bellyache if some of the cows are coming down with mastitis. Before you diagnose it I mean and discard their production until they recover. The milk turns greenish and stinks.) Hmm, where was I?

Oh yeah, every summer when the wild garlic came up the cattle would have a real taste for it for a while. My sister swore she could detect it in the milk. I couldn't. (You didn't want to butcher a steer for the family's meat at that time of year. The garlic is definitely detectable in meat). Don't remember if she could detect the change in diet when winter came. Maybe Flaystus is just more sensitive than most?

Milk has tasted funny to me for a long time. I was raised in rural Eastern Oregon and we used to buy our milk directly from farmers or ranchers with cows ... before it was "processed." My stepdad would always let it sit in the refrigerator overnight before using it. By morning, the cream part would float to the top of the bottle ... which he'd skim off to use in his coffee.

FWIW, we used to get butter the same way ... from farmers and ranchers with cows. And I'm always amazed that some people think that "real" butter is "yellow." It's not. It's just a bit darker than the color of real milk ... and tastes SOOOOOO much better than the crap bought in stores that "calls" itself butter.
