    These were my settings:

    Video Tab:
    Stream Type: MPEG-2 Video
    Size: 720x480
    Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
    Rate control mode: Constant Bitrate (CBR)
    Bitrate: 9800 kbits/sec
    VBV buffer size: 0 (automatic) KB
    Profile & Level: MP@ML
    Video Format: NTSC
    Encode Mode: Interlace
    YUV format: 4:2:0
    DC component precision: 10 bits
    Motion Search Precision: Highest Quality(slowest)

    Advanced Tab:
    Video source type: Non-Interlace(Progressive)
    Field Order: Top Field first (field A)
    Source Aspect Ratio: 16:9 525 line (NTSC)
    Video Arrange Method: Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

    GOP structure Tab:
    Number of I in GOP: 1
    Number of P in GOP: 5
    Number of B in GOP: 2
    Output interval of sequence header: 1
    MAX number of frames in a GOP: 18
    Output bitstream for edit(CLOSED GOP): checked
    Detect Scene Change: checked
    Force picture type setting: unchecked

    Quantize matrix tab
    everyting unchecked except for "Use floating point DCT(While using SSE, always on)"

    i thought field order doesn't matter, if your source is non-interlace progressive

    You didn't have any properties up ther before. Jumpiness is usually attributed to to wrong field order, since you have no fields to orcder I guess that's not it...

    I haven't worked with much non-interlaced footage but the little I have I've noticed that it can be choppy if the subject has a lot of movement...

    I have a 5 minute clip, so is it better to set it to CBR with 9800kb/s or VBR?

    If you've got a progressive source, why encode interlaced ?

    Also, Motion Search Precision: Highest Quality(slowest) and 9800kbps video is massive overkill IMHO, no matter what the source.
