this is my problem
i have an Xvid AVI that i wanted to put on a DVD
and add subtitles to because it is in Japanese
i have a SRT file that has all of the subtitles
so i encoded just the video using TMPGEnc
the picture quality was amazing
then i tried to rip the audio from the Xvid file using TMPGEnc
as a WAV file but when i listen to the audio
it is only high pitched squeels and such
my first question is this
do i need to use a special program that encodes the audio
so that i can use it in my dvd
my next question is this
i am useing DVD-Lab pro to author
when i dump my video and my subtitles in
(rendering the SRT file and configuring it to my liking)
the preview screen doesn't show my subtitles
is this because the preview screen is a preview for just the video
or should i be able to preview both the video and the subtitles together
if anyone can help that would be great
thanx

What kind of audio is it? Use Gspot to tell you. Don't use tmpgenc to convert audio because it chokes on some kinds. Use ffmpeggui for all your audio. Simple program but only supports up to 2 channels.
For subs, when you say the preview screen, which one? The preview screen where you can drag and drop frames into your menu is not supposed to show subs at all. The preview screen where you edit your subtitles and generate the stream is supposed to show you how they'll look and where they'll be placed. If they're not showing up there, you need to recheck your color tags on the srt file. -
De-multiplex the file with VirtualDub. This way you'll get the audio file (that can be either an AC-3 or a WAV file). If you've got a WAV file, you could use Sony Vegas to render it to AC-3. For the subtittles, open the .SRT file with Subtitle Workshop and save it to a format compatible with your DVD Authoring Application (example: Sony DVD Architect supports Sonic DVD Creator and Mac DVD Studio Pro).

What dvd player do you have? Some support having SRT files on the disk & load them for you.
