My DVD drive, a Compaq DVD-Rom DVD-115, suddenly can not detect store bought DVD's. It can see CD's and DVD-R's. But when I put in an original store bought DVD, the drive simply does not see it! I have not changed the firmware, nor have I changed its region code. I would appreciate any help or suggestion on this problem. Thank you!

Thank you, guns1inger, for your suggestion. I tried it. Unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem. I would appreciate any other solutions or suggestions.

Something slightly different happened to me a few nights ago, the solution may be worth trying to see if it helps you.
All of a sudden both my DVD-ROM and DVD-RW drives were unreadable by Windows Explorer. I discovered this as I was trying to install new software off a factory disc (I have autorun turned off) using Explorer, and Explorer said "D:\ not accessible, incorrect function".
As soon as I opened Windows Media Player, ** even when trying to read a data CD (as opposed to a CD or DVD containing media files) **, immediately Windows Explorer could read the disc just fine. This worked for both CDs and DVDs.
I had just upgraded to the new version of ITunes, don't know if that had anything to do with it.
Try loading WMP, or ITunes, then run whatever program you were originally using to try to play the discs.
Good luck! -
Thanks, cdb. I tried your suggestion. I regret to say it did not resolve my problem.

The problems still persists. The drive detected and played DVD-R's and DVD+R's. But for some reason, cannot detect original DVD's. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Hello ianlin,
There seems to be a problem with this model drive. It stops reading gold dvds but can read silver dvds.
One solution was here.

you have to test dvd drive try good other dvd's a non movie dvd (rom) is a better test, uninstall it in device manager and let windows find it if after all that problem persists you may have one of those anti copy programs loaded. One sure way is to reformat and reinstall windows make sure it is clean.
