I downloaded a video file with, according to AVIcodec, the following characteristics.
File: 650 MB (650 MB), duration: 0:59:15, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 64 %
Video : 595 MB, 1405 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*576 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5,
Audio : 54 MB, 127 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3,
But, when I try to play it all I got was jerky video and (depending on the player) choppy or perfect (but not in sync) audio.![]()
What is wrong? AVIcodec states I have the necessary applications/codecs to play this video, but, in the end I can't.
Anyone know why?
And how to fix it so I can play the file?![]()

Try using Super http://fever.link.free.fr/SUPER.html
Convert to another avi codec format and see if it cures problem . -
Convert to another avi codec format and see if it cures problem
One can convert into another, or the same, codec and it works.
But, I have found that by using Tmpge I can covert directly into VCD MPEG 1.
So I did
It took 12 hours with my puny 333 MhZ CPU, but, now everthing is in sync and smooth.
But, I still would like know why the orginal did not play correctly -
Most likely the file was corrupt. Plus your "puny 333 MhZ" cpu didn't help any. : )

I posted a question/solution about right-clicking to smooth video playback. i'm trying to get more people to try it out so please check out that topic and it may solve ur problem. It's a lil loophole that really doesn't seem to make sense but actually i think i figured it out. i guess i can copy and paste what i just posted right here:
-------------->
"...i'm sure that my situation isn't a freak occurence. It must have to do with something specific for example:
The video plays smooth and frames aren't dropped when a right-click menu is displayed over the video because more processor priority is being given to the MediaPlayerClassic program when a command is likely to occur...
In other words, when the processor's focus is on the media player it plays smoother than if some other higher priority program was draining processor power away... and by opening a right-click menu it directs that much more processor attention towards the MPC resulting in smoother playback. Of course, I base this theory on absolutely nothing other than how computer logic seems to work.
So, if I'm wrong and you know what the deal is... please tell me. However, if you don't have anything to add but you're just looking to correct someone with less tech experience than you, then please spare me. I was simply throwing out a potential solution that seemed relevant.
If you know anyone with a semi-slow computer... (~300-600MHertz or x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3) [it seems at this speed processor, video barely gets by playing smoothly at it's normal sized view] ...please let them know that their experience is needed. If someone other than me verifies that this right click menu effect/loophole/solution is common or at least makes sense to them, then it will make this topic legitimate, and an angel will get it's wings or whatever... throw me bone here."
Check out the topic for more details on the whole "right click conspiracy" haha LOL, seriously tho, nobody's agreeing or disagreeing with it... it's so weird.
