  1. I recorded a video on my camera, and when i moved the file over to my computer the video only plays the audio. No pictures. It says it is an AVI file. I tried to undo the move but it said it was missing some of its properties. I don know what to do.

Please help with any ideas of how to fix it if you can.

    thank you

What is the video codec in the avi file?? Identify using MediaInfo if you don't know.

And try play using vlc media player or smplayer, they have built in video codecs for most formats.

Try playing the clip with VLC. It generally handles MJPEG just fine.

No, as you found out. Divx and AVI are not the same. AVI is a "container" format. Many different kinds of videos can live inside an AVI container. Divx is one of them, but so is MJPEG. So a Divx player will play AVI files that have Divx videos inside, but not necessarily other types of AVI files.

It's just confusing. None of this stuff is intuitively obvious. That's why this Forum exists.

Glad to hear that VLC is working for you!
