is ffdshow capable to play DivX 6 format files? and if not,is it ok to install DivX 6 codec when ffdshow is also installed? can there be any harm with that?

I have both installed and have never noticed any problems. I don't know which one is being used to play Divx, but it plays fine.

DivX 6 video is still just ASP MPEG-4 so libavcodec of course still plays it fine.
Question wasn't just about the codec though, but about the divx format. ffdshow doesn't actually include any splitters so it doesn't have any impact on that. .divx is based/hacked on avi and should be 100% compatible so even MS's avi splitter should handle it ok.
