I've got the following problem:
I own a Provsion dvd+rw stand alone recorder that I am happy with in every day use, but when I want to edit the recorded tv-shows on my pc I get problems.
For editing I use TMPGenc. When I copy/paste all VOB files to harddisk, I can only load the first VOB file in TMPGenc and cut the specific shows from the stream. For this I use the mpeg tools section in TMPGenc. Any of the of the other VOB files can't be opened, they all give a 'invalid mpeg stream' error. But these files can be played with Media Player Classic without a single problem.
The recorded dvd+rw's can also be played without any problem in this recorder as well in my low budget bedroom dvd-player.
I also tried using dvd-decrypter to rip the entire disc image to harddisk, which sometimes works OK and on other occasions will give a 'cyclic redundancy error'. The times I am able to rip the entire disc, the VOB's (besides the first) wil give the same error in TMPGenc as described above. I have tried Sony as well as Philips discs, doesn't make a difference. My PC is powerful enough (P4-2.66), I got a 160 GB harddisk and a NEC3520 dvd-recorder that I also use for ripping the files. I haven't had time yet to try another DVD-station.
Can anybody help me to:
a) prevent this problem from happening in the future
b) fix/repair the many invalid VOB's on my harddive?

Try DVDDecrypter in file mode, in the settings set file splitting to "none". You should get one big VOB which you can re-edit or re-author. To avoid the CRC error messages under the I/O settings tab you can select "ignore read errors".

OK, I'll try that with newly recorded discs. But is there anyone who knows I can repair the ones I already recorded?

You should NOT play or edit invidual vob files, demultiplex to elementary streams or use vob2mpg to make one mpg file for editing or use a tool that can import an entire dvd like tmpgenc dvd author, videoredo.
You can try rip to the hd with isobuster. Or try another dvd reader. ANd get better media in the future.
