Do the newer Philips made DVD recorders have the laser assembally problem or have they fixed that.

The new Philips players are more reliable BUT the quality of the video and the ease of operation has dropped considerably.
I have an old DVDR985 that is still going strong but I don't think I'll be buying another Philips recorder if mine ever dies...looks like a Pioneer for me next time....maybe a JVC. -
I guess no one really knows the answer to this.
I really like my DVDR75 and if the newer units like the Magnavox that I can buy for about $140 at best buy has a different laser I probably will buy it.
