I've searched a lot of forums and can't seem to locate a solution to this problem. I'm trying to cut an OGM file into several segments using VirtualdubMod. GSpot says the Audio codec is ogg vorbis. I've downloaded and installed the codecs from the ogg vorbis site but GSpot still says the codec is not installed.

The OGM file plays fine in VirtualdubMod but when it is saved as a DIVX AVI, the audio is lost. GSpot now says there are no audio channels.

Can anyone tell me if my problem is related to the ogg vorbis codec or something I'm doing wrong in VirtualdubMod.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the file isn't too large, I would use VD to save out the audio as a WAV audio file. Then you get rid of the Ogg Vorbis problem. Or you could convert it to MP3 if you just wanted a more common audio format. Are you working with a multi-channel Vorbis file where you need multiple audio channels?

I you are planning to cut it up, WAV would be easier anyway. Highly compacted files, Xvid included, are difficult to edit. You can select the WAV file in VD and use it when you are editing the Xvid with likely more success than the Vorbis audio..

Thanks redwudz for the quick reply. VD will only let me demux the audio to an ogg file using the Streams List dialogue. I can't save the audio as a WAV file.

It's not a multi channel file and I don't need multi channels.

The file I'm cutting up is 700MB if that info helps.

Thanks for any further help you might have.

I've only delt with ogg files a few times, but if VD can't convert it to WAV, then you do likely have a bad or wrong ogg codec. Looks like http://www.vorbis.com/ is the place to look for ogg info.

Thanks for trying to help. I'd already been to the vorbis site but there's not that much help floating around. Anyway, after wading through piles of google searches and finding people in lots of other forums with the same problem (none of them being resolved) I finally found the solution. So for the benefit of other people trying to find the solution, I'll post the fix here.

The direct show filter for displaying files with this...

    ogg_vorbis_1 (0x674f) Ogg Vorbis

    codec is located here...

    http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm

for displaying these files on most media players.

To convert these files to something more manageable, there is a great little guide for doing this in VirtualDubMod here...

    http://sigmus.cjb.net/

So I hope this can help someone else in the future.

VirtualDubMod decodes vorbis fine here. As far as I can tell the decoder is built in since I don't have an vorbis ACM decoder installed.
