How do the higher quality video scalars and processors act as video restoration devices for capture purposes?

I need a good 'ol 720p/1080i scaler to feed my displays with various SD material, and I also need a TBC/video preproc with 480i output over s-video for capturing/restoration duty. In entertaining the whole Feral/Datavideo/Signvideo/etc. universe, I started to wonder whether some of the better home-theater video processors (e.g. DVDO, ...) might offer all these capabilities but also include scaling capabilities, HDMI output, etc. That would make it a far more useful device for me, and something that I would continue to use long after I've stopped capturing 480i video to a PC.

I think many DVDO-type processors offer TBC and some basic PQ controls. What I don't know is whether these capabilities are good, or whether the units offer 480i output since they're really geared toward 720p/1080i/1080p output over component/DVI/HDMI....
