Hi - I am a newbie to this site so please tell me if I am posting in the wrong place.

I am planning to convert my vinyl and cassettes to CDs (or maybe just to a big hard disk) and have bought an Audiophile 192 (which I think is the replacement for the 2496). Trouble is, I am new to all this 'audio at the PC' and I can't get the card to work. Any advice will be much appreciated.

I have loaded the latest driver and then connected the card to my stereo for input and output and also to the PC speakers. I can play an audio CD from my PC CD drive and hear music on both my PC speakers and stereo speakers. But, I cannot play a CD on my stereo and receive a signal at the PC using Nero Wave Editor. If I go to XP Control Panel>Sounds & Audio>Audio, AP192 is selected for both playback and recording but on Recording the Volume button is greyed out. Also, at Sounds&Audio>Volume, AP192 is selected but all options are greyed out. When I work through to AP192 Properties, there is a blank display for Volume Controls (whereas on Playback, there is a control for WAV, SW Synth and CD Player). Also, in Delta Control Panel, Master Volume on Monitor Mixer is greyed out and none of the mixer controls show activity.

Help! - best wishes - Roy

mrtunes, soopafresh - thanks for your time, and advice.I now have the AP192 working successfuly and thought I would post the details of what I did so that anyone else with the same problems may have a quickstart answer.

I had already looked at M-Delta FAQ and none of them helped my specific problem so I contacted the online support group. They tried to be helpful but initially were too technical for me - my fault, not theirs. Eventually, thay gave replies consisting of only very short words, which was what I needed but even though I made some progress I never reached a resolution. Then I discovered (from the backpage of the online PDF manual) that there is a UK support team - I live in London, UK. So I telephoned them and found a very helpful and very knowledgeable guy who explained the problem gave me a solution and now I have a working sound system.

He told me (and I may have some details wrong) that the AP192 uses a different, better set of standards than Windows for the implementation of the sound system, and so the two may well not communicate. Also, because Nero Wave Editor uses the Windows standards, it also may not communicate with the AP192. The solution is to install software that uses the AP192 standards - he recommended Audacity, a free, Open Standard
shareware product. So, I downloaded and installed Audacity - and he was right! This enabled me to listen to and record sound from my hi-fi through the AP192. But also, after I had installed Audacity, both Nero Wave Editor and Goldwave got kicked into life - I assume that it just needs one set of the new software somewhere on the system and Audacity gave me that.

I hope this will be of use to others in the future

    best wishes - Roy
