  1. I want to convert some dvds to avi's.
I have downloaded and installed the following
    avi.NET v2.5.8.2
    AviSynth_081227
    Xvid-1.2.1-04122008

I start the avi.net program and select input file.
I go to the dvdrom containing the dvd and select one of the vob's

The program comes back with a message.

You choose a cdrom or dvd rom.
You must select a file on a normal hard drive.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

You need to RIP the disc to your HDD first. Use DVDFab to RIP and then point avi.NET to the vob on your HDD.

I don't use AVI.Net, but it looks to me like you're required to transfer the DVD from the disc to the hard drive. Use DVD Decrypter or somesuch to do the transfer.

  4. Ok thanks for the replies.

I will see it that will work. It sounded like you could go straight from the dvd to an avi file.
