Failure at the end of the DVD usually means crappy blanks/media.

Or if you actually have an original (commercial pressed) disc, then it is faulty/damaged...exchange it.

Well... guess it has to be dragged outta ya.....
What "brand" of media are you using ??
What are you shrinking it with ?

But what hech54 stated, failure or problems at the end (outter edge) of a disc is usually bad media.

Brand names mean nothing most of the time.

DVDInfoPro will give you specific info on the MID of the disc, what company actually made it before maxell or whoever put their label on it.

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Which i believe certain info/parts are outdated.

But there are a lot of variables, some media burns better on some drives, worse on others, there are firmware updates for burners to make them more compatible with various brands of dvdr's, programs used, ect ect ect.

Verbatim is a consistent brand for quality & you can usually always find 50 packs on sale between BestBuy, OfiiceMax, ect.

I pretty much use verbatim dvd+r exclusively.
