  1. Have been working my way through a number of home vidoes and TiVO captures to prepare them to be played back on the TiVO. Even a few DVD rips as I've been trying to get some of the kiddie stuff into a more "rugged" format.

Because of other suggestions on here, I gone from a two-pass VBR in TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress to a CBR setting with a bit rate of 6144 (since I gather that multiples of 1024 are preferred). However, given the source for much of my material, I'm wondering if I would see much difference if I was using 4096 as the bit rate instead. Any personal experience y'all can share?

    TIA,
    Ewan

Nup, whoever told you that was feeding you BS. You can use any bitrate you want, multiples of 1 included

You may want to look at using CQ mode.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Not sure where I would find that in my MPEG Settings. As in, I don't see that as an option in TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place?

It should be in the same place as where you choose CBR or 2-Pass VBR. I don't have Xpress so I can't help you with that.
    If in doubt, Google it.
