  1. i have a Samsung DVD-V440 DVD-VCR combo, which is DivX registered.
As it cannot display heb subtitles, i add the subtitles permanently to avi files, using TMPGEnc and VobSub https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/153058.php .
For Video compression i use either DivX or XVid formats, for sound mp3 format.
This plays great on my PC. however, on my Samsung player there is no sound when playing the avi files.
What can i do? Should i use other formats, or do anything different?
    Thanks 4 your answers

I wouldn't recommend TMPGEnc for encoding avi's. Also I wouldn't re-encode the audio if you only need to re-encode the video. Just re use the original audio.

vbr mp3 is not included in divx certification-should be abr or cbr mp3.

  4. I don't know about your player but most don't like very low bitrate MP3. Don't go below 96 kbps.

  5. i am using cbr mp3 at 48000Hz, 320 kbps for audio
    DivX Pro 5.1.1 for video
    Why is there no sound?
How can i use previous sound and just add subtitles to video?
what shoul i use instead of TMPGenc?
    Thanks, guys,
    Kim.

  6. 320 kbps may be too high for the audio! I recommend you try short segments with different settings on a RW disk until you get your problems sorted out.

I use VirtualDubMPEG2, and VirtualDubMod for creating Xvid AVI files.

    Hello Kim

Divx and Xvid files created with TMPGenc do not have interleaved audio. To play back on a DVD player, the audio must be interleaved.

Use VirtualDub to make the files and be sure the 'Audio Interleaving' is checked. The reason is explained in the VirtualDub Help file under Audio Interleaving.

If you want to correct your file made with TMPGEnc then use VirtualDub and select Direct Stream Copy for both video and audio. Make sure the Audio interleaving is checked. No loss in PQ and very fast.

    Hope this helps,

    Chas

That would explain why the audio doesn't play on a Divx/DVD player. DVD players can't seek fast enough to get audio and video chunks from different areas of the file.
