I have been trying to convert MPEG2 files to H.264 to use on my iPod. (recorded with RTV - converted using RTV Tools). I am using ffmpegx 0.0.9t, and the latest mencoder/mplayer.
What I end up with are a large file called "FILENAME.264" and a 0k file called "FILENAME.MP4". Neither will open in QT or VLC. Even if I change the file extension on the .264 to .MPG, M4V, MP4 - they won't open.
Check out the screen caps of my problem here:

My main machine is a DP 1.8 G5, but I get the same results on my 12" PB, and my Mac mini. I've tried reinstalling from scratch, too, but it doesn't help.
Any ideas?

These files are intermediate files and not the final result. Probably there has been some error which prevented the process to complete, so please click the blue "i" button in the progress window and copy/paste me the output messages to major4@mac.com
