Since the xvid files I produce with TMPEnc dosen't work 100% (No sound when played in my Yamaha DVD player), I have to convert the files to MPEG instead.
However I would like to reduce the bitrate, so the MPEG size doesn't get 4 times bigger then the orignal. The problem is, whatever settings and bitrate I use in TMPEnc the MPEG file alwyas get the same big size.
Why don't the size reduce and how to fix this problem?

The reason your Xvid files made with TMPGEnc do not play audio on a DVD player is the audio is not interleaved. They will playback on the computer.
Use VirtualDub to create the Xvid files. The reason is explained in VD Help/Audio Interleave.
Hope this helps,

The reaosn being is that if you choose MPEG-1 Video CD, it pads out the MPEG such that it uses 10MB a minute irregardless of the bitrate you specify because that's the VCD standard. If you choose non standard then it only uses the bitrates you specify. If in doubt, Google it. -
Thanks for your answers jimmalenko

I'm confused...
when was WMV format mentioned?
The files created by TMPGEnc should be dvd compliant. Although usually, on TMPGEnc, your audio options include PCM-WAV and MP2. For best compatibility, select PCM-WAV, then convert to AC3 using BeSweet or (some other program whose name i don't remember)
edit: ffmpegGUI - this is the program i was talking about. i recommend this one as it is much simpler.asdf -
ahh. i misread. i thought he said the source files were xvid...
i havent seen any XVID dvd players... I've seen some that can decode DIVX (with limitations)... i believe they could be able to decode XVID, as XVID is able to decode DIVX....
anyways.......asdf -
that's because XVID is better than DIVX.
but i've been having to use DIVX instead because there's something wrong with my XVID encoder....asdf -

A work-around solution:
You could take your Xvid file created with TMPGEnc and use VirtualDub to interleave the audio. Choose Direct Stream Copy for BOTH video and audio and check the interleave box. Since it's direct stream copy, there is no loss of PQ and is very fast.

Thank you very much Megahurts. Your solution worked perfect, finally I got Xvid files that works 100%
